Very interesting, thanks Smooth!
By the way, one of the most elusive records on my all time wish list is "Trip on the Strip" by Sonny Fortune with organist Stan Hunter, on Prestige. ¿Have you ever seen this record on sale?
mr.smooth,ever thought of running
for prime minister, you just keep giving the people what they want with the ettiquette and professionalism of a true believer,
big thank you for this excellent lp from the great sonny fortune,if you come across his 'infinity is'lp
on atlantic it is also up there, keep well and much love. [in a brotherly sense]
You know I don't always like what you put up but when you hit it right, you really hit it. THanks for this one! (and Steve D is right, Infinity Is is awesome).
thank you.
great LP ,i love this style of jazz
I am trying to remember a quotation that I think was inscribed on this album and attributed to Sonny Fortune. It was something like "Next to the delights of madness, the pursuit of clarity is man's greatest pleasure." Can you confirm that this is the quote (if indeed it is found on the album? Thanks!
Thanks the more I listen to this the more I like it. A truly underrated release, thanks for posting it!
It's great to hear this again - a wonderful date that still sounds fresh. Thank you. Sonny's still worth seeing live. How about Awakening or Sergeneti Minstrel?
By 'scratching', I meant the dj/hip-hop type, not scratched vinyl.
Thanks
hi there Smooth,
I’ve referenced this page, as well as Norman Connor's "Saturday Night Special" and Carlos Garnett's "Black Love" on my post of Buster Williams – “Pinnacle” (1975).
All the best,
Simon from Never Enough Rhodes
I picked up this LP two years ago and it's gotten more mileage than I figured it would have at 1st listen.
Steve, I can confirm the quote, you only missed one word after the comma: "perhaps." It's on the back cover, at the top. However, there is no attribution, so I guess it would be Sonny's by default.
HI SMOOTH .I´M SPANISH, 51 ,Since i found your great blog i realize your musical taste is like mine.
I lost a infinity of records years ago of similar jazz-funk style ,mainly 70´s ,it´s a pleasure find a place like that.
Best wishes , and thanks indeed.
FER.
Woo Hoo - have not heard this in far too long - thanks a bunch!
